How We Cleaned a 320m² Roof in Eimeo Covered in Mould

This Eimeo Roof Cleaning project involved cleaning a large 320m² painted roof that had developed significant mould growth over several years. The property featured a 25-degree roof pitch and multiple solar panels, making it one of the larger residential roof cleaning jobs we have completed recently in Eimeo.
If you live in Eimeo, you’ve probably noticed how quickly mould and algae can take over a roof. With our tropical climate, high humidity and regular rainfall, roofs in Mackay can start showing signs of black mould within just a few years.
This week we completed a large Eimeo roof cleaning project on a home with approximately 320 square metres of roof area. Compared to the average residential roof we clean around Mackay, this was a sizeable job and required careful planning to complete safely and efficiently.
A Large Roof Cleaning Project in Eimeo
When we arrived on site, the roof was heavily affected by mould growth. The roof had previously been painted, which is quite common throughout Eimeo and the northern beachside suburbs of Mackay.
While painted roofs can look great when first completed, they often become a breeding ground for mould, algae and lichen as the coating ages. Once the protective surface starts to weather, the tropical conditions in Mackay allow mould to spread quickly across the roof.
The black staining was particularly noticeable around the lower sections of the roof and in areas where moisture remained for longer periods.
The property also had a large solar system installed, which added another layer of complexity to the project.
Working Safely on a 25 Degree Roof Pitch

One of the biggest challenges on this job was the roof pitch.
At approximately 25 degrees, the roof was steep enough to require additional care when moving around the roof surface. Safety is always our number one priority, especially when working on larger roofs where there can be significant distances between access points.
The combination of a steep pitch, painted roof surface and solar panels meant we needed to carefully plan our movements and cleaning process to achieve the best result without causing any damage.
Removing Years of Mould and Algae

The roof was treated using our specialised roof cleaning process designed for Mackay conditions.
The mould had built up over a number of years and had become deeply established across large sections of the roof.
After applying the treatment, the mould and organic growth began breaking down, allowing us to safely remove the contamination from the roof surface.
One of the most satisfying parts of this project was seeing the difference between the heavily stained sections and the freshly cleaned areas. The roof returned to a much brighter appearance and the overall presentation of the property improved significantly.
Solar Panel Cleaning Included
Since we were already working on the roof, the customer also asked us to clean the solar panels.
Solar panels naturally collect dust, dirt, pollen, bird droppings and organic debris over time. This build-up can reduce the amount of sunlight reaching the panels and may affect overall performance.
Using appropriate cleaning methods, we carefully cleaned the solar panels and removed the accumulated grime from the surface.
With the roof cleaned and the solar panels restored, the entire roof area looked substantially better by the time we finished.
Why Painted Roofs Become So Mouldy in Mackay

This project was a good example of a common issue we see throughout Eimeo, Rural View, Bucasia, Dolphin Heads and other coastal suburbs.
Painted roofs often experience:
- Black mould growth
- Algae staining
- Lichen build-up
- Dirt accumulation
- Reduced street appeal
The combination of heat, humidity and regular rain provides ideal conditions for organic growth.
Many homeowners are surprised at how quickly mould can return if a roof is not properly maintained.
Regular roof cleaning can help keep these surfaces looking their best while extending the life of the roof coating.
The Finished Result
By the end of the project, the roof looked completely different.
The mould staining had been removed, the solar panels were clean, and the property had regained the fresh appearance that had gradually been lost over the years.
Projects like this highlight just how much impact a professional roof clean can have on the overall appearance of a home.
For homeowners considering selling their property, maintaining a rental, or simply wanting to improve street appeal, roof cleaning is often one of the most noticeable improvements you can make.
